Vote popup is a proven tool for community-based organizations and local leaders
Through a unique voter simulation, we can build an inclusive and vibrant democracy in Canada by:
Demystifying the voting process.
Connecting people’s concerns and hopes to an election.
Building a culture of engagement.
HOW IT WORKS
During elections, The Exchange creates a toolkit for community organizations and civic leaders and offers training for staff and volunteers interested in hosting a Vote PopUp in their community. The toolkit includes everything needed to create a simulated polling place, (ballot box, voting screens, sample ballots) and a guide describing best practices.
THE IMPACT
To date, the toolkit and training has been adapted for use with Elections Canada, Elections Ontario and Elections BC and have been downloaded by over 500 people in over 100 communities across Canada. Over 300 community groups have held a Vote PopUp.
The movement is growing. For the 2019 Federal Election, The Democratic Engagement Exchange and Apathy is Boring launched the Canadian Vote Coalition, a national community of organizations and local leaders committed to increasing voter engagement with Vote PopUps.
