The Forum for Young Canadians, organized and run by the Rideau Hall Foundation, is dedicated to educating, equipping, and inspiring young Canadians to engage meaningfully in civic life. In March 2025, the Forum will host its National Summit in Ottawa, welcoming over 300 students over three weeks (100 - 120 students aged 14-18 per week) for an immersive, hands-on experience like no other.
The Democratic Engagement Exchange and The Dais at Toronto Metropolitan University are working with the Rideau Hall Foundation to program evening activities and ensure the safety and well being of all participants throughout the evening and overnight.
Job Role
We are seeking Youth Engagement and Safety Monitors from across Canada to ensure the safety and well-being of program participants during the evening programming and overnight.
Compensation:
You’ll be paid $5,000 per week amounting to $15,000 for the three weeks. In addition we will provide:
Door-to-door travel expenses will be covered from your home to Ottawa at the beginning of the contract and from Ottawa back to your home at the end of the contract, regardless of your location in Canada
Hotel accommodation provided during the program
Two meals during shift hours, breakfast and dinner
Key Responsibilities:
Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants during the evening and overnight
Follow the Rideau Hall Foundation’s safeguarding policies
Report any issues promptly and work with on-site leaders to address any concerns as they arise
Lead social programs in the evening such as helping to facilitate prepared activities, chaperoning the youth participants to off-site experiences, and ensuring all the youth feel included and welcome.
Assist participants with attendance, preparedness, and support those unable to engage in regular programming
Stay onsite at the hotel with participants, monitoring and responding to issues during the evening and overnight
Qualifications:
Minimum age: 24 years
Valid police record check, interview, and reference checks are required
Experience leading youth programming, camp counseling, coaching young people or related fields
Familiarity with child protection and safeguarding practices
Proven ability to address and respond to concerns appropriately and with sensitivity
Clear and empathetic communication, particularly in handling sensitive or urgent situations with participants and program staff
Excellent communication skills with the ability to handle sensitive situations with care and discretion
Certified in Standard First Aid Level C (preferred but not essential)
Bilingual English/French (preferred but not essential)
When You’ll Need To Be Available
We are seeking Youth Engagement and Safety Monitors who can commit to all three sessions. Exceptions may be considered.
Session 1: Saturday, March 1-Friday, March 7, 2025
Session 2: Sunday, March 9- Friday, March 14, 2025
Session 3: Sunday, March 23-Friday, March 28, 2025

Accommodation will be provided between Session 2 and Session 3, if necessary
Training
3 hours for online safeguarding training prior to Forum
5 hours of training on Saturday, March 1
Hours:
Youth Engagement and Safety Monitor responsibilities start each week on Sunday at 5:00 PM and end on Friday at 9:00 AM.
All monitors are required to work the evening shift from 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM.
Overnight duties are divided into two four-hour shifts: 11:00 PM to 3:00 AM & 3:00 AM to 7:00 AM
Each monitor will be assigned to one overnight shift per night.
